District 7 Member Shirley Doyle Named "Citizen of the Year" in Umatilla
Congratulations Shirley!
Shirley Doyle, GFWC Umatilla Woman's Club President has been named "Citizen of the Year" by the City of Umatilla. She will be honored this Saturday, November 21, 2009 at the Cracker Festival held yearly in Umatilla.
Shirley retired from Sears as executive management. She and her husband Jerry came to Umatilla to retire, but retire they did not. As Shirley says "the Lord gave me a job and I want to serve him through my community"
Shirley started the Adult Center sponsored by the First Baptist Church and co-sponsored by GFWC Umatilla Woman's Club. The Center has varied classes such as yoga, Art, computer, jewelry making, to name a few. A free lunch is given to all that attend,
Shirley and her husband accommodate the Crisis Center for those in need which has tripled. Traveling to Orlando for supplies monthly to keep shelves stocked.
Shirley has been President of GFWC Umatilla Woman's Club for five years and holds a state FFWC position on the 1895 Society committee, Shirley chairs the large Chinese Auction held at the church yearly in December to share profits with the church and her FFWC Club for scholarships.
Her love is "Shoe Boxes" and was named Lake County Director of the "Christmas Child Samaritan's Purse" distribution center Once a year packing thousands of shoe boxes for the children of the world.. Shirley spends countless hours annually in the same children based program, the "Giving Box," where new toys are dropped off by the community and parents not financially able to buy for their children come each year to pick gifts for their children from Santa, The jobless, less fortunate are never forgotten by Shirley.
The mold was broken when Shirley was born. You will never meet another like her, always loving and a generous Christian soul. This honor bestowed upon her couldn't have been given to a more deserving community leader. When you meet her, you will never know her accomplishments she is a true from the heart giver through and through that is why this honor is so deserving ,
